Hanie, Bears come up short in loss to Raiders

November 28, 2011

Caleb Hanie’s first start at quarterback didn’t go well. The Raiders picked him off three times and used six field goals to win 25-20 and end the Bears’ five-game winning streak.  Considering this is Caleb Hanie’s first time out, you can’t expect perfection. He will make the necessary adjustments, and will be better by next week.

November 24, 2011

Kyle Orton was claimed on waivers Wednesday by the Kansas City Chiefs, so the Bears shifted to Plan B and signed Josh McCown to fill their need for a veteran backup quarterback.

The Fat Lady Will Sing “Bear Down”

Cutler’s Costly Victory. But will she eventually pick up the mic for the Chicago Bears? The team might have won their fifth game in a row (31-20 over the San Diego Chargers) but quarterback Jay Cutler is reportedly set to undergo surgery on the thumb on his throwing hand after breaking it during the victory. How serious is it? Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune reported that two sources confirmed that Cutler will miss 6-8 weeks, meaning he’s done for the regular season though the Bears will avoid putting him on injured reserve in order to have him available for any possible playoff games. But how the heck can they get there? Although currently 7-3, a wild-card spot looks a tough task (the Green Bay Packers will win the division). Cutler’s current backup is Caleb Hanie, who has yet to throw a pass this season and hasn’t made an NFL start (they also have rookie QB Nathan Enderle, but he hasn’t seen action either). Who knows: perhaps the Bears will reach out to Brett Favre. In sports, anything is possible.

Bennett Ditched Orange Cleats

November 20, 2011

Bennett, who racked up $15,000 in fines for wearing orange cleats the previous two weeks, came out in regular cleats when the Chicago Bears began warmups Sunday for their game against the San Diego Chargers at Soldier Field.

According to a report by, the league informed Bennett he would not be allowed on the field with the orange shoes.

New Power Rankings

November 20, 2011

8. Chicago Bears (12, won 37-13): 6-3. They dominated the Lions on Sunday, and with an easy schedule the rest of the way, there’s a good chance the Bears may be returning to the post-season. (Next game: vs. San Diego)

Sunday match up San Diego Chargers at Chicago Bears

November 20, 2011

San Diego Chargers (+4) at Chicago Bears: With four straight losses for the Chargers, it appears that Norv Turner is once again on the hot seat, but what else is new? It seems that every year his Chargers team underachieves and they are at it once again in 2011. Can they snap the skid in Chicago? The Bears come into this game red-hot, having won their last four games, including last weeks 37-13 domination over the Lions. The Chargers will come out and play better in this one, but it’s really all on Phillip Rivers. He looks like a different quarterback this season. I’m going with the Bears to win their fifth straight here in a tight one. Prediction: Bears 23, Chargers 20.
