GM hunt picks up steam

January 20, 2012

Allrighty then Bear fans, let’s see what’s going on with our beloved team. Mike Martz did in fact retire, YaY! Jason Licht interviewed for the GM spot on Monday. They also refused the Vikings request to interview Jon Hoke for their defensive coordinator position, don’t blame them much for that, who wants to let a staff member go to an opposing team in your division?

The Giants college scouting director Marc Ross was interviewed on Wednesday for the GM spot, he was third behind Jason Licht and Jimmy Raye. Tim Ruskell was interviewed today. Mike Tice is being interviewed for the head coaching position after the Raiders released Hue Jackson.

On the Pro Bowl front, Matt Forte is going to attend his fist Pro Bowl, after passing his physical. He will be joined by corner Charles “Peanut” Tillman and special teamer Corey Graham.

Bears GM Hunt

January 13, 2012

After last weeks housecleaning, it’s been a slow week at Halas Hall. One of the Bears pressing issues will be the hiring of a new general manager. The candidates are Phil Emery, Chiefs college scouting director, Jason Licht, Patriots director of pro personnel, Jimmy Raye III, Chargers director of player personnel, and Giants college scouting director Marc Ross. President Ted Phillips said it could be February before the job is filled.

Also former Quarterbacks coach Greg Olson interviewed for the same position with the Bears he held in 2003 under Dick Juaron.

Another question for the Bears is will we be able to acquire a 1000 yard season by a wide reciever. Roy Williams made a late season push, but didn’t cut it. Earl Bennett was consistent with Jay Cutler, but couldn’t establish consistency with Caleb Hanie, finally picking up a bit with Josh McCown. Johnny Knox should be able to pick up where he left off before sustaining the back injury late in the season.

Shake up at Halas Hall

January 6, 2012

There was a lot of action beginning Monday at Halas Hall. Jerry Angelo was relieved of his duties, Mike Martz resigned because of philosophical issues. Quarterbacks coach Shane Day was also relieved of his duties. Mike tice was promoted to offensive line coach.

First order of business is a new general manager. Candidates are Eric Decosta, The Baltimore Ravens personnel director, Reggie McKenzie, the Green Bay Packers director of operations, and Tim Ruskell, the current director of personnel for the Bears.

Bears vs Vikings

January 2, 2012

The Chicago Bears finished their 2011 season on Sunday, beating the Minnesota Vikings 17 13. They ended this season with a record of 8-8.

Quarterback Josh McCown made enough plays against the league’s worst pass defense, which resulted in a 22 yard touchdown pass to Roy Williams. Jared Allen reached a 22 sack record against the Bears, until they got Jamarcus Webb some tight end help. Charles “Peanut” Tillman picked off a Christian Ponder pass that bounced off Toby Gerhart’s hands. Robbie Gould hit a 27 yard field goal, and Julius Peppers blocked a 48 yard field goal attempt by Ryan Longwell.

Israel Inonije lived in the Vikings backfield, and he knocked ponder out of the game with a hip injury. Joe Webb played okay, but he was picked off twice. Toby Gerhart left later in the game with a sprained mcl in his left knee.

The scariest moment by far was the accidental hit on Brian Urlacher by Major Wright,in which urlacher landed awkwardly on his knee. He is scheduled for a MRI on Monday.
